Craft For: Direction

"Be bold in trying; explore the possibilities." This memorable quote from Marco's teacher resonates deeply with him. Having once hit a low point and lost his direction, his passion for jewellery design was nearly extinguished. By chance, he became an apprentice goldsmith, and through learning and creating, he rediscovered his path in life.

What do you "Craft for"?

"In my middle school years, I was exposed to Hip Hop music and was attracted by the exaggerated jewellery "blings." Besides thinking it was "cool," I was also amazed by the production process. In university, I had the opportunity to learn and try the basics of jewellery design and production, and my interest gradually increased.

Later, I joined the Sunsmith team, gaining more professional knowledge and practice. Now, while appreciating every piece of jewellery, a fast-motion image of the production process seems to appear in my mind, so curiosity has driven my artistic journey."

Being in Hong Kong, what benefits and difficulties have you had as a jeweller?

"An advantage is that Hong Kong has rich resources, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, encouraging me to try, learn, and develop in multiple aspects.

However, craftsmanship requires long-term training, and experience is needed to handle challenges."
- Marco Nam

Do you have a message you would like to tell the public through this event?

"I hope the outside world has a deeper understanding of Hong Kong's metalworking industry and appreciates every metalworker who perseveres quietly.

Hong Kong manufacturing can definitely rival international big brands."
- Marco Nam

「放膽去試,探索可能性。」

Marco studied 3D Design in university and developed a strong interest in jewellery design and craftsmanship through elective courses.

He later joined the Sunsmith team, starting as an apprentice to receive training. Marco believes that goldsmithing is a part of life, with each day's work serving as a practice to enjoy the progress of his skills. He finds joy in the repetition and is content in the process.
