What motivates you to persevere in this industry in Hong Kong?

"I know that the jewellery industry in Hong Kong used to be very outstanding, but with the industrial shift north and the gradual retirement of some older craftsmen, the industry is facing the risk of a gap.

Therefore, I am determined to learn this professional skill well while the masters are still in their positions, hoping to pass on this valuable craft knowledge and experience."
- Edward Wong

Being in Hong Kong, what benefits and difficulties have you had as a jeweller?

"The greatest advantage of jewellery design in Hong Kong is that this small and refined city has convenient transportation, allowing all processes to be efficiently completed locally. This geographical advantage greatly enhances the efficiency of the entire industry chain.

The challenges of jewellery design in Hong Kong are:

1. High living costs compress profit margins.

2. A fast-paced work environment is not conducive to meticulous craftsmanship.

3. Consumers prefer foreign brands, making it difficult to promote local brands."
- Edward Wong

Do you have a message you would like to tell the public through this event?

"As a person engaged in handcrafted creations, I am full of passion and persistence for this work. Even in a difficult environment, as long as you love it enough, you can do it well, focusing and carefully crafting to infuse unique personal style into your works.

I not only cherish the tradition of craftsmanship but also continuously seek innovation on this basis, striving to promote the development and inheritance of this art."

「有運氣,再緊緊把握去行。」

Edward has a background in the finance industry and later developed an interest in jewellery making through his connections with some jewellery masters in his line of work. He enrolled in evening jewellery courses at Hong Kong Baptist University. From then on, he has continued to hone his skills by learning online and seeking guidance from experienced mentors, gradually finding his way into the world of goldsmithing.

While he upholds traditional craftsmanship, Edward also embraces modern design technology and production techniques. This fusion of tradition and innovation allows him to create pieces that blend the essence of the times with his own playful style.
