Craft For: Eclectic

"The process of creation is also a process of contemplation." Bianca's interest in goldsmithing was ignited by her encounters with various metal components while studying and working in fashion design. During her creative process, she often reflects on the assembly methods of different materials, integrating diverse design techniques into her goldsmithing. By connecting these elements using goldsmithing techniques, she constructs jewellery pieces that feature rich textures and intricate layers.

What do you "Craft for"?

"My background is quite diverse. I initially studied fashion design and developed a strong passion for fashion accessories, intrigued by how a small accessory piece could transform a person's look and style. This led me to start incorporating metal into my work, as I became fascinated by how it could amplify the impact of a design.

My fashion design studies cultivated an openness in me to experiment with different materials and textures, and I like to explore the visual and tactile connections and contradictions between them.

In addition to being a jewellery designer, I also teach jewellery design, jewellery making, and CAD. I don't believe in limiting myself to a single approach - I greatly enjoy the process of continuous exploration, which is why I would characterize my work as eclectic."

What motivates you to persevere in this industry in Hong Kong?

"Hong Kong is my hometown, and it is also a city with a lot of happenings. The art
exhibitions, trade shows and fairs hosted throughout the year brings artistic people together, including potential customers that values hand crafted jewellery.

I think it is a good place to launch my jewellery collection in Hong Kong. "

Being in Hong Kong, what benefits and difficulties have you had as a jeweller?

"It is quite challenging to develop a craft business in Hong Kong since the operating cost is very high, which can sometimes constrain the designer’s choices drive them to be more market-oriented.

However, in recent years, there has been a surge of interest in art and handicrafts among people in Hong Kong. When they learn about the complex technique behind each piece, they gain a deeper appreciation for the crafts and being more willing to support the local arts and crafts industry. The is beneficial to independent jewellery designers like me."
