How did you get into the jewellery industry and why?

"Twelve years ago, I picked up my first tool and began my journey in craftsmanship. This journey opened various doors, from jewellery making to vessel production, discovering that craftsmanship is like a door to another world. By opening this door, I gradually realized the depth of this world of craftsmanship, and my interest in metalworking has grown daily, realizing that this field can be so vast.

I have been curious about art-making since childhood, initially approaching metalworking from the perspective of design and appreciation of contemporary art.

Later, I continued my studies at the Birmingham City University School of Jewellery, focusing on traditional metalworking and integrating technology into the jewellery industry. My initial curiosity gradually developed into my profession, driving me to continuously hone various skills and further my studies worldwide, exploring the joy that craftsmanship brings."

Being in Hong Kong, what benefits and difficulties have you had as a jeweller?

"As an international hub, an advantage of being in Hong Kong is that we can easily access various materials and tools from around the world, and these resources can be quickly delivered here. Information flows easily, there are no cultural restrictions, and the space for creation is almost limitless.

However, the flip side of this advantage is that Hong Kong lacks the strong cultural foundation, background, and community support found in other countries. The jewellery industry here is relatively individualized, lacking collaboration and support, with everyone facing challenges alone, and many resources needing to be sought externally."

Do you have a message you would like to tell the public through this event?

"I believe that many people in Hong Kong are very interested in metalworking, but unfortunately, there are very few channels for understanding metalworking locally. Therefore, I look forward to this craft exhibition providing the public with a high-quality experience of handmade craft culture. I hope the public can be inspired by our passion and dedication to craftsmanship."
