Craft For: Identity

"Jewellery creation is a deeply personal journey for the maker. The process allows artisans to personalise and humanise their craftsmanship, constantly
developing themselves through exploration." Hugo continuously challenges himself in the realm of metal; from creating large metal vessels to delicate jewellery pieces, he discovers the joy of possibilities along the way while seeking his own unique style of craftsmanship.

What do you "Craft for"?

"If the way a piece of jewellery is worn can distinguish the wearer's personal attitude towards aesthetics, then jewellery creation is designed for the creator, allowing them to personalize, humanize, and conceptualize the craft throughout the process, continuously expanding themselves and reshaping the meaning and value of craftsmanship from different perspectives. This enables both the wearer and the designer to discover important values through the processes of "utilization" and "creation."
- Hugo Yeung

What motivates you to persevere in this industry in Hong Kong?

"As an international city, Hong Kong has always absorbed various cultures and information from different channels. As a Hong Konger, I hope to nurture some local culture in my own way through my personal ideas on creativity and craftsmanship."
- Hugo Yeung

Being in Hong Kong, what benefits and difficulties have you had as a jeweller?

"As an independent designer, the advantage is I can handle both design and production, allowing for bolder attempts and exploration of different directions.

The challenges, however, is the market has clear positioning for different jewellery, making it difficult to find suitable channels to showcase designs and craftsmanship if they do not fit within existing labels."
- Hugo Yeung

「首飾創作是為創作人而設,讓創作人從過程中將工藝個人化,人性化,從中不斷拓展自我。」

After obtaining a bachelor's degree in Metalwork and Jewellery, Hugo pursued relevant master's degrees in the UK. He has since been actively engaged in the fields of design and education.

Hugo, who continues to create new jewellery pieces, advocates for simple and harmonious visual effects. His works are often structured with geometric shapes, expressing mathematical logic and his personal appreciation for beauty.
